Data Asset Manager, 36 Month Fixed term Contract, £80,000 – £90,000 DOE, Durham


Context and Purpose of Role


The Data Asset Manager is expected to demonstrate effective leadership, following recent deployment of an Enterprise Asset Management system, defining the enterprise asset data strategy, policy and standards that reflect and support evolving business needs as asset data management capability matures. This is an exciting opportunity to transition into a Master Data Manager role upon completion of the Fixed Term role.


The role must be able to engage and influence senior stakeholders, especially asset owners, ensuring that the importance and value of asset data is understood as well as the crucial role asset data plays in supporting insights and analytics which in turn improve efficiency of capital and operational investment.


Communicating their vision and ensuring that asset owners and asset data teams alike have clear common goal to contribute to and deliver. The role must inspire and drive a high-performance culture and continuous improvement in asset data quality.




  • Lead and drive a high-performing organisational culture that delivers continual improvement
  • Establish an effective enterprise asset management system and capabilities to optimise systems, process and organisation
  • Lead and manage a team of in-house data technicians to collect, validate, record, and report asset data within our systems
  • Ensure currency and robustness of asset data and that data quality is sufficient to support investment and maintenance decisions and delivery of Strategic Planning Framework
  • Foster a culture, acting with integrity, that empowers talent and focuses on positive outcomes for all stakeholders
  • Establish a leadership position amongst industry peers and industry bodies
  • Review, analyse and interpret asset information to prepare periodic reports to meet regulatory requirements
  • Advise the Leadership Team on all issues relating to the organisation’s asset data and risks, supporting asset health assessment and providing input to asset criticality and risk
  • Ensure Asset management processes conform to evolving business and industry standards (e.g. ISO).
  • Introduce best practice via the definition, adoption and management of applied policies and standards to asset data
  • Interrogate data, understand and map workflows to analyse, manipulate and interpret data
  • Ensure that NWL’s systems and processes are always in line with data protection and privacy legislation, as well as best practice
  • Provide excellent customer service, both internally and externally, to all requests for provision of accurate asset data
  • Manage enterprise asset Data Governance and Data Council forums

Skills and Experience

  • Experience of senior stakeholder management and presenting data to Executive and Director level
  • At least 7 years’ previous experience of managing Data teams
  • Strong customer service and communication skills
  • Problem solving, the ability to deal with complex data and information
  • Experience of data architecture, integration between data platforms
  • Ability to understand issues arising from cross platform connectivity
  • Process development
  • Experience of translating complex data scenarios to business users
  • Experience of working with remote teams
  • Proving experience in working with and developing data teams within a complex organisation
  • Experience of working in both Agile and Non-Agile environments




  • Expert understanding of legal and legislative requirements including the Data Protection Act and GDPR
  • EAM, ERP and other enterprise-wide solutions
  • Data management, data transformation and data manipulation, technologies, including but not limited to: SQL (preferred), MS Excel, Reporting tools (PowerBI, OBIE etc.)
